KOLLAM: Senior cartoonists in the state who came together seeking an amicable solution on the Mullaperiyar issue, sketched their views on the issue in Indian ink on a white canvas stretched near the Press Club here on Monday. The event which was organised by the Kerala Cartoon Academy and Kollam Press Club witnessed cartoonists Sukumar, M M Monai, P V Krishnan, Peter, Sudheer Nath, Surendran Vazhachal, Nathan,  Kerala Cartoon Academy chairman Prasannan Anikkad and secretary B Sanjeev doing live cartoons on the Mullaperiyar issue. The public were also invited to do cartoons on the subject.  Earlier, at a meet-the-press programme, academy office-bearers said that they have started a blog of cartoons on Mullaperiyar. The cartoons can be viewed at www.damtoons.blogspot.com and can be used free of royalty for protest programmes in connection with the dam, they said. Cartoon Academy had earlier conducted a similar campaign during the campaign for banning endosulfan.  The Academy had generated `50,000 during the campaign and the amount was handed over to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The Academy had conducted another noted campaign for the benefit of children affected with cancer. However, pointing out that Kerala Cartoon Academy as the only such organisation in the country, chairman Prasannan Anikkad said that the Academy is being given only a meagre grant by the government.
