RAMANATHAPURAM: Wildlife officials recovered the carcass of a sea cow, an endangered species, at Thalaithoppu, near Periyapattinam, on Wednesday. The liver and other parts of the mammal were found harvested by some unidentified persons. The three-year-old male sea cow was three metre long and weighed 120 kg. The abdomen was found to be torn with a sharp weapon and its liver and other parts were also missing.Based on information, a team of wildlife officials, led by Sundara Kumar, Wildlife Warden, rushed to the spot along with veterinary doctors. The carcass was buried after conducting autopsy on the spot. An investigation has been launched to apprehend the offenders.
