THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Police will install more surveillance cameras on the Vellayambalam-Kowdiar road to check racing, DGP Jacob Punnoose said on Wednesday.The DGP’s announcement comes in the wake of two deaths on the arrow-straight stretch last Saturday and complaints about youths using the road as a racing track re-emerging after a brief while.Vishnu Manikantan, 19, and Alwin, 15, were killed when the bike they were riding crashed into a median. The motorcycles were moving at a high speed and even at the time, the police had voiced their suspicion that the youths were racing their bike.The incident had occurred in front of the Manmohan Bungalow. Some months ago, complaints about racing on this stretch had reached a crescendo with the DYFI even ransacking a coffee shop, where the racers allegedly assembled.
