VELLORE: Over 20 students of a private engineering college in Kancheepuram were injured as their college bus fell into a sandy river in Arcot on Monday.The bus was proceeding from Arcot to Kancheepuram via Kalavai on Monday morning. When the bus was nearing the Delhi Gate area on Arcot-Kalavai road at around 8 am, the driver, Arumugam (28), lost control of the vehicle and it fell into the sandy river by the roadside.A total of 23 students including three girl students and two male professors were injured. The driver fled the scene after sustaining minor injuries.The injured were taken to a hospital in Visharam. Vellore Corporation Mayor Karthiyayini, Arcot municipality chairman Puroshothaman and Visharam chairman Abdul Rahman visited the hospital. They students were later admitted to a private hospital in Vellore for further treatment. Arcot town police have filed a case.
