KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has assured that all deserving persons would be given Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards. Pointing out that a good number of applications received as part of the Chief Minister’s mass contact programme were related to APL, BPL cards, he said that the BPL cards would be issued according to the guidelines to be fixed by the state government.For getting the benefits of rice at one Rupee scheme and treatment aid in government hospitals, the applicants would have to produce their ration cards."The guidelines of the Central government and State government on BPL cards are different as the benefits provided by the Centre would not be available with these cards,” he added.There should be changes required in APL list too. The persons who are now in the APL list and are eligible to be included in the BPL list would be included in BPL. Government will prepare APL and BPL lists as per the norms and will hand over it to all panchayat members. The BPL list will be published in all ration shops in order to make people know who all are enlisted in the list, he said.
