MYSORE: If the Centre implements the Jan Lokpal Bill, many corrupt persons would go behind bars both in the state and Centre, said former Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde. He called upon people to boycott those who are indulging in corruption, which has reached its peak in the country. We have to keep corrupt people away from public money, otherwise we cannot find a solution for corruption, he added.Hegde said, “I am in favour of bringing corporate companies which have business or are taking grants from the government under the purview of the Jan Lokpal Bill.”He was speaking on ‘Corruption in India’ after releasing a book ‘Brashtacharavemba Rogavu, Manusyaremba Navu’ by R Balasubramanyam at a function organised by Department of Studies in Economics and Co-operation, University of Mysore at Senate Bhavan on Thursday. He blamed society for failing to recognise a rich person with honest background and those who made money through illegal means. Referring to the scams like 2G and CWG, Hegde said the Krishna-Godavari basin oil scam will cross the magnitude of these scams. Not even one per cent of government schemes is not reaching beneficiaries, he added. He explained that in order to take administration to villages, the government came out with panchayat raj system. “But the panchayats are neck-deep in corruption and follow kinship politics. Government schemes are not reaching the public and panchayats are witnessing a setback in development. About `51,000 crore was sanctioned for basic needs like drinking water, sanitation and roads for villages during 2006-07 by the Centre. But the entire fund was spent and there are no accounts for the money as mentioned in the CAG report given in 2008,” he said.
