BJP meets to discuss Marandi's fast
Marandi accuses the Arjun Munda Government of corruption and underdevelopment in the area and is fasting to protest.

New Delhi/Ranchi: Top BJP leaders met in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss party vice-president Babulal Marandi’s fast to protest against the Arjun Munda government in Jharkhand.

Marandi began a 24-hour fast in Giridih on Wednesday to protest the "under development and rampant corruption" in the state.

BJP leaders fear Marandi, the party's only Lok Sabha member from Jharkhand, will quit.

There are speculations that Marandi will join Independent MLA Stephen Marandi, who has formed a "non-political outfit" called the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha.

BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Sanjay Joshi briefed party leaders about his talks with Marandi on Monday night.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, leaders of Opposition L K Advani and Jaswant Singh, Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders, including Sushma Swaraj and V K Malhotra are attending the meeting.

Marandi has alleged that the state government and the state party unit headed by Yadunath Pandey are ignoring him.

Only two MLAs are supporting him, but the coalition government has a razor-thin majority in the Assembly.

Joshi on Monday told Marandi that senior leaders would listen to him.

However Marandi rejected Joshi's request and decided to go on fast.
