New Delhi: In a huge embarrassment for the BJP, CNN-IBN has learnt that Gujarat's top police officer had admitted that he couldn’t provide security for the Indian Premier League (IPL) but Chief Minister Narendra Modi had claimed his state could have hosted the entire tournament.
Gujarat Director General of Police SS Khandawala had told the IPL that no games could have been held in the state in April.
Khandawala had written to the Gujarat Cricket Association that he would not be able to provide security till May 3.
This contradicts Modi’s statement who had said that it was a shame that India had to hold the games on foreign soil.
“The Central Government made a wrong decision. This proves that India is an unsafe country. I question the Government, if they cannot give security to 11 cricket players then how do they intend to provide security to 111 crore Indians?” Modi had said on Sunday.
However, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi that the NJP and NDA want to politicize IPL "BJP has always known for distorted acronyms. Refer NDA to as a New Distructive Alliance, now they want to convert ipl into indian political league," he said.
