THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) operations in Aruvikkara constituency are in for a major revamp. A high-level meeting convened by the Speaker and local MLA G Karthikeyan and Transport Minister V S Sivakumar decided to start long-distance services to places such as Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Munnar and Kanyakumari from depots in the constituency as part of the plan. The new ring-road services of the KSRTC will be put to full use to benefit Aruvikkara. The KSRTC has also been asked to have a re-look at all existing bus routes in Aruvikkara constituency. Steps will be taken to start new services wherever required. Measures will also be taken to improve and add necessary infrastructure in the bus depots in the constituency. A ramp will be constructed at the Aryanad depot for streamlining repair works. A compound wall also will be built around the depot. Sivakumar said that the Aryanad depot was one of the best in the State and that it would be given due consideration by the State Government. Diesel pumps will be installed at Vithura and Vellanad depots. Vithura depot, which faces shortage of water, also stands to get water supply facilities. The Government is also planning to construct toilets at the depot for the benefit of passengers and KSRTC employees. The depot will also be fenced off. KSRTC managing director K G Mohanlal and other top officials attended the meeting.
