BANGALORE: Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML Limited), a public sector company, in an effort to leverage its strength in e-Engineering, joined hands with CVRDE and set up a BEML Technology Centre at CVRDE premises in Chennai.V K Saraswat, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister A K Antony, who is also DG DRDO and Secretary-Defence R&D, inaugurated the CVRDE-BEML Technology Centre on Sunday in the presence of V R S Natarajan, CMD-BEML and Shivakumar, Director, CVRDE.Through this R&D Centre, BEML and CVRDE will jointly address the design and development of defence products and aggregates including R&D products.The centre shall ensure to synergise the capabilities of DRDO and BEML and realize the projects on a much faster rate thus strengthening the defence front of the nation.A few projects that were jointly developed and delivered by BEML & CVRDE are Launch and Recovery System for the Underwater Autonomous Vehicle, CFD analysis and simulation of Infrared Radiation Suppression System, Experimental setup for IRSS at Naval Dockyards, Testing of Active Antenna Array Unit, Environmental Testing of Tx-Rx Units, testing of 550 hp ICV transmission, testing of torque converter and Quality Assurance and Quality Control documents for Arjun MBT.Currently, BEML and CVRDE are working together with a foreign firm for building and supplying 155mm 52 Calibre Tracked Gun to defence. The establishment of CVRDE-BEML Technology Centre will be a watershed in the partnership between the industry and R&D in Indian Defence domain.
