The flight from Delhi with 110 passengers on board had veered off the runway and damaged many edge lights causing panic at the airport on Thursday.

Bangalore: The Captain and the First Officer of the Indigo Airlines (A320) that met with an accident at the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) on Thursday night have been grounded by the company.

An Indigo flight from Delhi with 110 passengers on board and 6 crew members had veered off the runway and damaged many edge lights causing panic at the airport on Thursday.

The runway was shut for more than two hours and several flights had to be diverted, delayed and cancelled. According to aviation experts, the windy conditions, low visibility and wet runway caused the accident. It was raining heavily at the airport when the incident occured.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviations (DGCA) has also ordered an inquiry into the incident terming it a major accident.
