KOCHI: The Avishkar-Scientia Atomos 2011, the year-long scientific event organised by the Science Department of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, was inaugurated on Friday at the school auditorium.Inaugurating the function Ajayan M Pulickal , nanotechnology scientist from Rice University, Houston, said that scientists and science aspirants must be curious about the life around them.He advised students to be creative thinkers and think in a way others have not thought of. “Not all efforts bear fruit as we plan, but success comes with persistence and from efforts to learn from failures. Science and the world are closely related and science makes the world move ahead” he said.School director Kamakshi Balakrishnan, principal Maya Mohan and G V M Gupta, scientist, Ministry of Earth Science, and members of the managing committee were present at the function. After the function, Ajayan M Pulickal interacted with the students.He also answered various questions posed by the students. Scientia Atomos-2011 is a series of scientific competitions in which students of every school in the city take part. This year the theme of the competition will be based on Chemistry and the events will be centered on the subject.The powerpoint presentation competition and the poster contest will be held on October 22. Other programmes will be conducted during the academic year. By now, 17 schools had already registered for the event and more are expected to participate before the first event.
