Guwahati: Mortal remains of two Indian Air Force pilots, who died in the microlight crash in Assam on Thursday, were flown to their respective hometowns on Friday.
Remains of Wing Commander Jai Paul James who hailed from Chennai arrived in Bengaluru. He is survived by his wife, two children and his parents.
The body of Wing Commander D Vats was received at his hometown in Delhi. He is survived by his wife — who is a military nursing service officer - and a 7-day-old baby.
The two pilots died when their microlight aircraft crashed near the river island of Majuli in Assam on Thursday. The aircraft had ventured on a routine sortie from IAF’s Jorhat air base.
Later, the wreckage was found at Sumoi Mari village near Majuli, south of Kamalabari. Air Commodre S K Verma, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of Jorhat based Air Force Station said that a court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident.
The last rites of both the officers would be performed on Saturday. Earlier, a wreath laying ceremony was held at Air Force station Jorhat, which was attended by Air Force and Army officers, including GOC 41 sub area, AOC 10 Wing, and AOC 5 AFH.
