SALEM: K Suresh Kumar, the nephew of Veerpandi S Arumugam, and a few others accused in the land grab cases have been given seats by the DMK to contest in the civic polls.The outgoing Vice Chairman of Salem District Panchayat, Suresh Kumar is the prime accused in the ‘six of a family murder case’. He is also a co-accused with Arumugam in the Angammal Colony, Premier Mills, Dasanikenpatti land grab cases and in the Coimbatore Jewelers criminal intimidation case. Presently lodged in jail at Vellore Suresh Kumar has been allocated a seat to contest in the District Panchayat Ward no. 17.Auto Manickam a prominent functionary, three time councillor and the outgoing chairman of the Corporation Finance Committee Manickam, was the first senior DMK leader to be held in a land grab case when the Special Cell was formed. He has been given a seat to contest in his former ward no. 9.Outgoing councillor Gym Ramu, a co-accused in all the land grab cases has been allocated ward no.30, which he won last time. Another outgoing DMK councillor Saral Gunasekaran, wife of ex-councillor and Corporation Zone Chairman of Ammapet, who is also facing land grab charges has retained ward no.42.
