KOCHI: The police along with forensic and ballistic officials who were set to conduct the search and seizure of the weapons aboard Enrica Lexie on Friday had to return  as the procedure has been postponed to Saturday. Although police and other officials boarded a boat from Ernakulam boat jetty to conduct the search, they were ordered to return as the search would be conducted in the presence of arms and ammunition experts from the Carabinieri, an autonomous Italian military branch of the armed forces for policing both military and civilians.Later, at a meeting between Kochi City Police Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar and the team of delegates led by Italian Consulate-General Giampaolo Cutillo, it was decided that the search will be conducted on Saturday."The court on Thursday had permitted the Italians to keep their representatives during the search and seizure of the weapons. Since the Italians said that two of their representatives had not arrived yet, the procedures have been postponed to Saturday,” Ajith Kumar said.Giampaolo Cutillo said that they are ready to cooperate with the Indian police. “Our experts will reach Kochi by Saturday morning. The search and handing over of the weapons would be done in their presence,”  he added.
