HYDERABAD: Director-general of police V Dinesh Reddy is likely to appeal against Wednesday’s High Court order that mandated a contempt rap against him and a probe into his property declarations. Also facing contempt proceedings in the case, CID chief S V Ramana Murthy is expected to adopt a similar approach.Though the DGP’s office continued to say nothing on the High Court order, top sources indicated an appeal is very much an option lest questions be raised over his continuance in the post while facing an inquiry.Dealing with mutual allegations traded by Dinesh Reddy and fellow senior IPS officer Umesh Kumar, justice Ramesh Ranganathan had on Wednesday ordered a probe by a senior official into the assets held by them. Dinesh Reddy and Ramana Murthy were also faulted for suppressing material facts before the court.Sources told Express that after the High Court verdict, Dinesh Reddy confabulated with his aides on the options open to him. The general view was that there was no choice but to go in for an appeal, though the grounds of it were still being discussed.Dinesh Reddy is understood to have called on chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday and again on Thursday. But what transpired between the two is not known fuelling speculation on how the political leadership intends to handle the issue. In case they do go in for an appeal, both Dinesh Reddy and Ramana Murthy will have to do so in their personal capacities since the matter does not involve the state government. There was still no reaction to the development from the government on Thursday. “It is the state government that has allowed the situation to go out of hand by not intervening. Now it is in an equally embarrassing situation,’’ said a police officer.
