The Anakru-Nirman Award, instituted by the Anakru Foundation and Nirman Shelters, was presented to veteran Kannada poet N S Lakshminarayana Bhatta (NSL) at a programme in the city on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Urban Development and BWSSB Minister S Sureshkumar promised that the State Government will take necessary steps to grant 18,000 sq ft of land to the foundation, allotted years ago, but is under litigation.
“The State Government had allotted the land just behind Ranga Shankara in J P Nagar Phase. But this action was challenged by a private party who owned a school in the adjacent plot. But the minister assured to clear the legal hurdles,” said Anakru Foundation chairman V Lakshminarayana.
“The award consist of a cash prize of Rs1 lakh,” he added.
Kumar, with a humorous touch, added that politicians and bureaucrats should attend such functions so that they are energised to work better.
Kumar appreciated the panel for selecting N S Lakshinarayana Bhatta and commented that the government needs to be careful while selecting persons for the the Rajyotsava awards.
N S Lakshminarayana Bhatta has translated over 50 sonnets of William Shakespeare and 50 of Yeats’ poems in a work titled “Chinnada Hakki”. He is also a recipient of the Sahitya Academy award for his work ‘Horalu Dariyalli Kavya’.
Rashtra Kavi Dr G S Shivarudrappa, writer Aa Ra Mitra and Jnanpith awardee U R Ananthamurthy are some of recipients of Anakru-Nirman award.
