KOCHI: Air passengers travelling from Cochin International Airport may have to face an intensive security check on Tuesday in view of the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition. However, the airport authorities said they had not received any advice from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in this regard. “Since the BCAS had asked in previous years to beef up the security measures during this time, we expect such an instruction at any time on Monday. And, we are ready to implement security measures at any time as soon as we get an intimation,” CIAL authorities said.In that case, there will be intensified and repeated baggage checks, CCTVs, multiple X-ray scanning and frisking. The service of dog squad of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will also be made available, they said. The security check at the airport gains significance in the wake of the recent incidents of persons trespassing into the airport and even moving near the parking bay. In an incident which raised serious concerns, the security officials at the airport in June had arrested a man for entering the airport. The person had accessed the air side by jumping over the perimeter wall from near gate number 1.After two months, in August the security officials caught a 12-year-old boy trespassing into the protected area. The boy gained entry into the air-side and was found standing under an aero-bridge near the parking bay. He was noticed by an airline personnel.
