New Delhi: The Australian Government has no specific information of a planned terrorist attack against Australians in Indonesia, but John Howard says the threat is serious.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Sunday reissued its travel advisory for Australians in Indonesia, and those considering travelling there.
The Prime Minister said justification for the heightened advisory had come from intelligence about a possible attack from the al-Qaeda linked Jamaah Islamiah network.
He also said that the intelligence reports have confirmed that the terrorists are in the final stage of planning the terror attacks.
“There is intelligence about a possible Jamaah Islamiah attack in Indonesia and we have to give a warning,” Howard told the Nine Network.
But Foreign Minister Alexander Downer on Monday confirmed there was no specific information about a target or time for an attack.
“We don't have any information designating a specific target or for that matter a specific time of a terrorist attack,” Downer told ABC Radio.
