New Delhi: The interview of senior BJP leader L K Advani on CNN-IBN seems to have embarrassed the BJP no end, and BJP President Rajnath Singh has described the transcripts of the interview as 'malicious'.
This is 'reporting with a malicious intent', Rajnath said in response to the pre-telecast transcripts of the programme.
The BJP president told PTI that there was "a whole lot of difference between the context in which Advani had spoken and the pre-telecast transcript of the interview with the former deputy prime minister."
"The transcript was nothing but a case of reporting with malicious intent. It was made out to create sensation about the programme before its telecast... maybe for TRP reasons," Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday.
News reports based on the transcript, which were published on Sunday and Monday, left the party in an awkward situation for a day with Advani quoted as saying that he would be the BJP's candidate for the prime minister's post, but he did not expect party veteran A B Vajpayee to endorse his candidacy.
In his interview, Advani said his role in the party was that of a consultant now.
The BJP Parliamentary Party, which met on Tuesday, however refrained from raising these issues. The meeting rather focused its attention on its next moves in and outside Parliament over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's remarks about plans for minorities.
