HYDERABAD: After nabbing four accused in the sensational robbery at Abids a few days back, city police are reportedly probing the gang’s possible involvement in other such cases in the city. Police suspect the same gang might have been involved in a similar robbery that took place at Tank Bund a few months back.According to sources, Central Zone police arrested the four youth and recovered 3.65 kg gold from them. Central Crime Station (CCS) officials are now questioning the nabbed persons to ascertain their involvement in other cases. The breakthrough in the case came to light following clues provided by two eyewitnesses, Amjad Khan and Abed Pasha, who gave description of the accused apart from providing a part of the registration number of the motorcycle used in the offence.“Based on the registration number, we searched for 26 vehicles with AP 13 (A to Z) 2406 series and found seven are motorcycles. Separate teams were sent to each vehicle owner’s address and the suspect narrowed down to a jeweller from Subash Road, Sabari Prasad Vyas,’’ sources said. The vehicle used in the offence AP 13J 2406 was registered in the name of M Venkatesh of Sitarambagh.Venkatesh sold the bike to Siddivinayaka Automobiles at Kacheguda.Inquiries at the showroom led to Vyas, sources said.Police, however, caught Vyas and recovered one kg gold from him. On his confession, police nabbed Gopal Purohit, of Jalore in Rajasthan in the city and 1.20 kg stolen gold was recovered.Another team which went to Mumbai nabbed Narender of Khirodi in Rajasthan and recovered another one kg gold. Another accused, Sunil Joshi was also arrested. The other gang members, Deepak and Mahipal, both hailing from Jalore in Rajasthan, are still on the run. Police said Vyas came into contact with other gang members during his earlier transactions.“Vyas hatched the plan to earn easy money by looting gold merchants who come to the city to sell gold ornaments to local jewellery shops. On June 14, they targeted Sonu Sakariya and his cousin, Rakesh Sakariya when they came out of Bajranglal Jewellers at Gunfoundry,” police said.
