BANGALORE: The Bangalore Rural District police have cracked 91 cases in the last four months and arrested 169 persons in this connection. Stolen articles worth about Rs 1.15 crore have been recovered from the arrested persons.The solved cases include seven murder, 15 robbery, six dacoity, 16 house burglary and 47 theft incidents while the recovered articles include 1.63 kilogram of gold jewels and 11 four wheelers.Speaking at a press conference, Bangalore Rural District Superintendent of Police D Prakash said the crime rate in their jurisdiction had come down in the recent times as the police have taken various steps to curb robbery, dacoity, gambling and other crimes.He also added that they had started a new program me called ‘Abhaya’ to ensure the safety of the people. “The programme aims at protection of lonely women, senior citizens and families residing on the outskirts. Most of the dacoity cases are being reported in farm houses as the area is vast and less people reside there. Hence there is more focus on such areas,” he said.“Steps have been taken to circulate the contact numbers of the police officers and police stations, so that people in trouble can easily contact us in emergency situations. The police stations concerned have collected various details about the people staying in lonely houses and the police are visiting such houses twice in a month,” Prakash explained.The police are also conducting a phone-in-programme to know and solve problems of people on every Friday between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm, he gave details.
