CHENNAI : “The UPA government at the Centre has just completed its third anniversary. As a gift to mark the occasion, it has effected an unprecedented hike in the petrol price. It is nothing but betrayal of poor and middle class people and a highly condemnable act”, said Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.Reacting to the hike in petrol price to be effected from midnight of Wednesday, the CM said the move would bring down purchasing power further as well as the economic condition of middle class people. “I urge the Centre to withdraw this hike immediately. Or else, the tears shed by the poor will very soon return as a weapon to unseat this anti-people coalition government led by Congress,” Jayalalithaa warned.Condemning the UPA for increasing fuel prices time and again, she said “No one will accept the Centre’s lame excuses for hiking petrol price, such as the fluctuation of crude oil prices and the fall in rupee value,” she said.“Fixing the price of domestic crude oil on par with the crude oil imported from abroad is an unfair act. The hike would have a cascading impact on the monthly budget of the poor and middle class people who use two-wheelers. Further, private vehicle operators would also increase the fare,” the CM pointed out.
