Raxaul (East Champaran): Nearly 400 Indian labourers mostly from Bihar working in a Nepalese town on the Indo-Nepal border have been driven out of the Himalayan country after being beaten up severely.
The industrial labourers, who arrived at this border town from Birganj in Nepal on Sunday evening, chanted anti-India government slogans as the police refused to register a case.
Angry labourers also surrounded the Raxaul police station demanding registration of a complaint and Indian authorities taking up the issue with their Nepalese counterparts, the sources said on Monday.
A complaint was registered on the basis of the statements of the labourers on Monday morning, sources said.
In their complaint, the workers alleged that hundreds of Nepalese Maoists descended on Nitin Industrial Area on the outskirts of Birganj town, industrial hub of Nepal, and began beating up workers, mostly from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The Maoists also allegedly looted their valuables, including cash, and drove them out of the country with a warning not to return or face dire consequences.
The complaint was registered after the agitated workers blocked the Raxaul-Birganj border road for about four hours following which a police team led by sub-divisional magistrate used batons to clear it for commercial traffic.
