3 lakh posts vacant, says SRMU

CHENNAI: Southern Railway Mazdoor Union general secretary N Kanniah on Wednesday alleged that the railways lacked adequate manpower and more than 2.4 lakh vacancies have yet to be filled. “Now, with 150 more trains being operated, the railways require to fill another three lakh vacancies,” he added.Kanniah claimed there was inadequate funding for the Karur-Namakkal-Salem new railway track project, which was initiated 10 years ago, for which only Rs 40 crore was allocated. Kanniah said that they were not against rollback of fares, but the social cost of the railways had to be borne by the government.
