CHENNAI: With the arrest of two persons on Thursday, police said they have cracked the murder of a 47-year-old woman at Thirumullaivoyal. Investigations revealed that the two were clients of the victim, who was involved in an online sex racket. According to police, Yasmin alias Vasanthi, who was found dead at her house with her throat slit on December 12, came into contact with Gopinath (25) of Thai Nagar, Red Hills, and Mani alias Gym Mani (23) of Padi. The duo used to frequent her house. On learning from Yasmin that her husband had kept `5 lakh in the almirah and there was lot of gold jewellery in the house, the duo planned to bump her off and rob the valuables. On the fateful day, they gained entry into her house and smothered her with a pillow. When she regained consciousness and tried to alert her neighbours, they slit her throat with a knife and escaped with 12 sovereigns of jewellery. There was no cash, as her husband had kept the `5 lakh in a bank locker, sources said.Police recovered 8.5 sovereigns from Mani and three sovereigns pledged at a pawn shop in Padi.
