New Delhi: Two students were killed and two others seriously injured when their car overturned, near India Gate in Delhi.

The accident occurred at around 5.10 AM. The survivors have been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Preliminary investigations suggest it was a case of drunken driving. News agency IANS quotes police sources as saying that broken liquor bottles were found near the crash site.

“This accident was due to rash driving and all of them were drunk. The car was going at such a speed that it turned upside down till 15 officials came together to lift it up,” said constable Ram Singh. “We took all the four victims to the nearby hospital.”

The students were returning from a party at the Intercontinental Hotel when their speeding car, a Skoda Laura, hit a tree and overturned.

The dead have been identified as Noida residents Sneha Kapur (21) and Anirudh Rawat (20). They were thrown from the back of the car when the accident happened and died instantly. Sneha was a student at Amity University and Anirudh at Delhi University.

The two injured, Satyajit and Gaurav, were sitting in the front, and escaped the same fate because they were wearing seat belts.
