10-year-old run over by share auto

CHENNAI: A ten-year-old boy was killed here on Friday while he was trying to cut across the road outside his school in Ambattur. Eyewitnesses said, M Ha-riharan, a Class III student in a private school in Kallikuppam, Ambattur, and son of Murgesan, a sweet shop owner in Kolathur, was returning home in the evening along with his elder brother, who studies in the same sch-ool. The brothers tried to cut across using the zebra crossing but a speeding share auto hit Hariharan about 100 feet from the school gate.The boy was rushed to a nearby private hospital but since his condition was critical, he was referred to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The public grabbed the share auto driver, who tried to flee, and handed him to the police. 2 fie of asphyxiationTwo persons were killed of asphyxiation on Thursday night after they inhaled noxious gases. Sankaraia (36), a municipal worker, and Immanuel (28), were called to clean the septic tank at Kuppan’s residence in Kallu Kadai Street, Avadi. When they climbed down the septic tank, they died of asphyxiation after inhaling noxious gases. Police have registered a case under Manual Scavengers and Construction of Dry Latrines (prohibition) Act and IPC 304 (A) and have arrested the house owner Kuppan.
