Three generations of Telugu cinema’s Akkineni family have left an unparalleled mark in the film industry. The legacy of Akkineni Nageswara Rao, widely considered one of the most prominent figures of Indian cinema and recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, was continued by his son Nagarjuna. He soon moved up his way to becoming part of the top league of actors in Telugu cinema, being dubbed ‘King Nagarjuna’ due to his immense popularity. Nagarjuna’s sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Chaitanya are now successful actors in the industry too. Nageswara Rao passed away in 2014 at the age of 90, after starring in over 255 films. In some of these films, he appeared alongside Nagarjuna. Here are the films where the father-son duo starred together.
Collector Gari Abbai (1987)
This movie was the first time Nageswara Rao appeared alongside son Nagarjuna as his on-screen father. The film depicted a rift between the father and son duo on issues like morality and ethics. The movie was a super hit at the box office and was even remade in Hindi as Kanoon Apna Apna.
Agni Putrudu (1987)
This film marked the second collaboration between father and son, but this was a time when Nageswara Rao’s stardom was waning and hence the film sank without much of a trace at the box office.
Rao Gari Illu (1988)
A loose adaptation of the Hollywood classic, The Sound of Music, Nageswara Rao had an experimental role in this film that had a short cameo from Nagarjuna. He played himself in the film.
Iddaru Iddare (1990)
Akkineni Nageswara Rao plays the role of a judge in this movie, while Nagarjuna plays the role of a roadside Romeo.
Sri Ramadasu (2006)
This historical biography starred Nageswara Rao and Nagarjuna as Kabirdas and Bhakt Ramdas respectively. The film turned out to be a huge success at the box office.
Manam (2014)
This is the only film where we get to see three generations of the family together. Nageswara Rao, in his last and final film role, appeared alongside Nagarjuna as well as his grandson Naga Chaitanya. Nageswara Rao passed away before the film’s release during its post-production phase
