Mixing Your Ingredients
Add your vodka to a mason jar. It's important to have some kind of sealable container that your vodka fits in. A mason jar is ideal, but any kind of sealable container will do. Pour your vodka into the container. Make sure you leave a little headspace, as adding the toffee will cause the vodka to rise.
Add the toffees. From here, all you have to do is place your toffees in the jar. You don't have to crush them beforehand or stir them, as the toffees will dissolve in the alcohol on their own.
Seal the jar. Close the jar tightly. Make sure the lid is completely sealed, as this will help the alcohol dissolve the candy.
Dissolving the Toffees
Set the vodka aside for 24 hours. Do not refrigerate the vodka or place in the freezer. Leave in a safe space in your kitchen where it will not be disturbed. Let it sit for 24 hours to dissolve the toffees.
Shake the vodka periodically. During the 24 hour wait period, occasionally shake the vodka bottle. This will help the toffees dissolve, possibly speeding up the process slightly.
Wash the bottle in the dishwasher to speed up the process. If you don't have 24 hours to let the toffees dissolve, place your container of vodka in a dishwasher. Run it for a cycle. This will help the toffees dissolve quicker. Make sure your container is safe to place in a dishwasher. Make sure the container is completely sealed before placing it in the dishwasher.
Serving Your Toffee Vodka
Store your toffee vodka in the fridge. Toffee vodka should always be served chilled. Chill it for a few hours prior to serving after the toffee is completely dissolved. Keep it in the fridge unless you're pouring someone a drink. If you want to leave your toffee vodka out at a party, place it in an ice bucket to keep it cold.
Shake well before serving. Some toffee residue may sink to the bottom of the bottle of vodka. Shake the bottle prior to serving so everything's evenly mixed.
Serve the drink however you prefer. There are no strict rules for serving toffee vodka. It's a good idea to stick to smaller glasses, however, as you should only serve toffee vodka in small amounts due to the high alcohol content. Something like a tumbler glass would work better than a pint glass. If you want, you can wet the brim of a glass and then dip it in brown sugar for extra embellishment.
Use it in cocktails. If you want, try substituting toffee vodka for plain vodka in a variety of cocktail recipes. Already sweet cocktail recipes, like those made with fruit juice, may benefit from toffee over regular vodka.
Track how much you drink. Remember, vodka is hard liquor. It's easy to drink toffee vodka quickly, as it has a sweet taste and you may not notice the alcohol. Make sure to keep track of how much you're drinking and try to limit yourself to only one to two drinks.
Discard your toffee vodka within a few months. Vodka itself does not really go bad, even after being opened. However, the toffee in the vodka does not have an indefinite shelf life. Most people who make toffee vodka find it starts to go bad after a few months. Try to drink your toffee vodka before a few months have passed to avoid spoilage.
