Obtain at least 3 stars from the levels around the first floor of the castle. This is the amount of stars you'll need in order to enter the room containing the entrance to the The Secret Aquarium.
Know that you're free to keep playing as Yoshi if you'd like. You don't need to be playing as any particular character to access this level, so you can enter it as Yoshi as soon as you get 3 stars, if you'd like. Having said that, if you're further on in the game and feel comfortable playing as a different character, then feel free to play as them.
Learn where to find this level. From the center of the first floor of the castle, head to the far right, and walk up the staircase furthest to the right. You should notice a door with a small yellow star, and a red number "3" on it. This is the entrance to Jolly Roger Bay, and the door you want to enter.
Know how to enter this level. When you enter the room for Jolly Roger Bay, you should notice two square black holes on the wall near the door. If you're facing the door, you'll want to enter the black hole on the left in order to access The Secret Aquarium. If you're running low on lives, you can also enter the black hole on the right in order to obtain an extra life.
Collect the 8 red coins throughout the level. There are 4 floating at various locations throughout the water, and 4 at various locations on the ground. Keep in mind, however, that you’re in a water level with no opportunity to come up for air, so you’ll have to either work quickly or keep collecting yellow coins in order to avoid losing health.
Collect the power star that appears. It should appear in the middle of the level, on a shadow star platform similar to what you may have seen in other levels. Since there are no other power stars to collect, once you’ve collected this power star, you have officially completed The Secret Aquarium.
