I never exploited her on the pretext of marriage: Sardar Singh
"Allegations of sexual harassment are totally false. I will decide on future course of action after getting the report," a visibly miffed Sardar told reporters.

In a spot of bother after an India-origin hockey player from the UK filed a complaint of 'sexual exploitation' against him, India hockey team captain Sardar Singh on Thursday refuted claims that he was engaged to the woman or ever took any advantage on the pretext of marriage.

The girl, who lives in London, filed the complaint at the Kum Kalan police station in Ludhiana city on February 1, in which she has complained about 'attempt to rape', following which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by Ludhiana Police on Wednesday to probe the issue.

Sardar, who is a deputy superintendent with the Haryana Police, called a press conference in Chandigarh on Thursday where he said the allegations levelled against him are fabricated.

"Allegations of sexual harassment are totally false. I will decide on future course of action after getting the report," a visibly miffed Sardar told reporters.

However, he did not deny knowing the woman from Leeds.

"I met her through Facebook during the London Olympics. We were good friends but such allegations are absolutely baseless," he said.

In her complaint, the girl alleged that she met Sardar during the 2012 London Olympics for the first time, following which they entered into a physical relationship. She also claimed that the Indian captain was engaged to her and harassed her mentally and physically.

Refuting her claims, Sardar said he was good friends with her but never got engaged.

"I never got engaged to her. I knew her for a long time, but that doesn’t mean we are engaged," he said.

Meanwhile, Ludhiana Police Commissioner Pramraj Singh Umranangal had ordered an inquiry into the complaint before filing an FIR.

The SIT would be headed by ADCP Satbir Singh Atwal, ACP Purewal and SHO of Kum Kalan police station.

The girl's lawyer PS Hundal on Wednesday told IBNLive that the woman became pregnant last year as a result of her physical relations with Sardar.

Hundal also said that the India skipper forced her to go for an abortion and began avoiding her thereafter.

"Sardar then asked her to abort, which she did...They even got engaged, but now he doesn't want to see her, is not taking her calls," the senior lawyer said.

Sardar said the reports of abortion are framed and he does not have any knowledge of the matter.

Sardar, who had posted tweets and his photographs with the British woman in the past, said things didn't work out the way both of them wanted, due to which they stopped seeing each other.

"I took her to my village. I wanted her to meet my parents and see from where I hailed. But I think she didn’t like the place and wanted me to settle down in England, which wouldn’t have been possible for me," Sardar was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

"As things didn’t work out between us, we parted ways. For the last four-five months, and may be even more, we didn’t meet and we are not in touch. So, I don’t know why this complaint comes now. I am sad to hear about such a thing," he added.
