West Bromwich: West Bromwich Albion climbed into the top half of the Premier League on Sunday after two goals by Peter Odemwingie and one from Somen Tchoyi secured a 3-1 win over Newcastle.
Tchoyi's first goal at the Hawthorns gave the Baggies a deserved halftime lead as they dominated the opening 45 minutes.
Odemwingie then completed his side's first league win over Newcastle for 26 years before Peter Lovenkrands scored a late goal for Newcastle.
"I thought everything about today was good," West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo said. "We scored three great goals and we controlled the game for the majority of the time.
"I think we pressed them quite high up the pitch; we never let them settle in. We recovered possession quite well."
After 32 minutes, Tchoyi broke the deadlock with his first goal at the Hawthorns and fourth of the campaign. Chris Brunt found Tchoyi in space inside the box and the Cameroonian midfielder cut inside Jose Enrique to curl a left-footed drive past Tim Krul from 15 metres.
Newcastle manager Chris Hughton made a halftime change with Lovenkrands replacing Shola Ameobi but Odemwingie doubled Albion's lead in the 71st. Danny Guthrie slipped over on the halfway line to leave Odemwingie with a clear run on goal and he kept his composure before slipping a left-footed shot wide of Krul.
Guthrie was stretchered off and replaced by Alan Smith.
Odemwingie rounded Krul with a minute left to score before Lovenkrands's injury-time consolation.
