London: Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin has revealed that boss Arsene Wenger wants him to remain at the club next season.

Arshavin has struggled for his best form this season and is no longer able to hold down a regular place in the north Londoners' starting XI, with Frenchman Samir Nasri often occupying the Russian international's favoured starting position on the left flank.

The 30-year-old's disappointing campaign had led to him being one of the names linked with the exit door at the Emirates Stadium as Wenger looks to revamp his squad this summer after a disappointing campaign in which the club failed to end its trophy drought, which now stretches to six seasons.

The tricky winger had been linked with a return to former club Zenit St Petersburg, although possible moves to Spain and Turkey were also mooted.

But earlier in May the Arsenal boss publicly insisted he expected Arshavin to remain at the club over the summer, and now the player has revealed his manager has reiterated this stance.

"The manager wants to continue working with me," he told The Sun.
