WATCH | Angel Gomes Lies Motionless After Being Knocked Unconscious, Former Man U Player Treated on Field for Over 30 Minutes
Angel Gomes received medical attention for more than 20 minutes before being carried off on a stretcher.

Angel Gomes was knocked unconscious with a frightening head injury in Lille’s 2-0 win over Reims in Ligue 1. There was a lengthy stoppage while the stricken midfielder received treatment on the field.

The 23-year-old Gomes, a Manchester United academy graduate, was left motionless lying on his back after a collision with Reims midfielder Amadou Kone, who was sent off as a result of the challenge.

Players from both sides immediately called for the medical staff before the ex-England Under-21 international was eventually stretchered off and taken to hospital.

“The latest news is rather reassuring, but it’s better to be careful,” said Lille coach Bruno Genesio.

He admitted to feeling “very, very scared” and criticised Kone’s conduct.

“There are things we shouldn’t see on a pitch. There are fouls you can excuse. This one for me is not one,” said Genesio.

“Angel is doing pretty well,” Lille’s club president Olivier Létang said.

“But we’ll wait to find out how he spends the night, with his additional tests, before saying that we have a clear happy ending,” he added.

Amadou Kone, after going back to the dressing room was seen praying for Angel Gomes.

When the match resumed after a 35-minute break, Lille quickly took control. Bafode Diakite opened the scoring just before halftime, and Canadian striker Jonathan David sealed the victory in stoppage time with a goal assisted by Ethan Mbappe, the younger brother of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who made his first appearance for Lille.

After the final whistle, both teams posed with a Reims jersey with the words “ Take care Angel ” written in French.

In other Ligue 1 games, Mason Greenwood scored twice on his Marseille debut in a 5-1 rout of Brest. The final match on Saturday saw Monaco secure a 1-0 win against recently promoted Saint-Etienne after Takumi Minamino scored with a chip over the goalkeeper midway through the first half.
