In yet another twist in the tale of Kylian Mbappe’s transfer saga, PSG are reportedly interested in seeking out the services of 26-year-old Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford, in the case that the Frenchman leaves the club this summer.
PSG’s history of trying to acquire the Englishman has been well-established. The Ligue 1 leaders previously attempted – and failed – to acquire the Manchester United star’s signature but may try their hand again at the end of the season when looking to bolster their attack.
In fact, prior to signing his five-year extension with United this past summer, Rashford was said to be in talks with the French side regarding a move, but reports suggested that the discussions were merely used as leverage for Rashford to acquire a better deal at United.
The left-winger who can also play as a striker would offer an interesting option within Luis Enrique’s system as the manager appears to appreciate positional flexibility from his outfield players.
PSG will certainly have their work cut out in replacing their all-time top scorer in Mbappe if he chooses to leave for Real Madrid, but seemingly believe that Rashford, who earns a reported £300,000 per week, would be able to replicate a similar job.
Last season was the best of the Englishman’s career to date after he scored 30 goals across the term and played an integral role in the Red Devils reaching the FA Cup final and claiming a Champions League spot.
However, like AC Milan’s Rafael Leão who is also under the Parisians radar, Rashford has had an inconsistent season so far at Manchester United with only 5 goals in 21 appearances from the Englishman.
And the off-field drama that Rashford has been involved in recently has not helped his image at the club or within fans.
Since Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS takeover of the club as well, there has been no evidence of the new direction the club is willing to take and whether Rashford, who has struggled to live up to his bill, would be a part of the same.
Despite it all, it would be interesting to witness whether Erik Ten Hag’s side would be willing to let go of a homegrown talent that rose up the ranks.
