Durban: World Cup referee Roberto Rosetti has blown the whistle on his career, but said his mistake during the Argentina - Mexico clash did not influence his decision.
Rosetti and his assistant were dragged into a wave of controversy after they failed to spot a clear offside goal by Carlos Tevez.
And despite his insistence regarding his decision, the Italian will quit refereeing to take up a post as the vice-comissioner for Serie B referees - a move confirmed by the Lega.
He will help co-ordinate teams of referees that will take matches in the Cadetti.
"Honestly, the error in Argentina-Mexico at the World Cup in South Africa has not influenced my decision," he told the press.
"I have had a great career, 13 years in Serie A, two World Cups and three Champions League semi-finals.
"Now I have got this offer and decided to take this road. I am sure I have made the right choice."
