La Liga: Hercules earn 0-0 draw at Racing
Racing had the stronger first half, while Hercules played better in the second.

Barcelona: Hercules came away from El Sardinero stadium with a point after a 0-0 draw with Racing Santander on Monday to close round 16 of the Spanish league.

Racing had the stronger first half, while Hercules played better in the second, but neither team generated enough chances to break the deadlock.

Racing's Kennedy Bakircioglu saw two well-taken free kicks come close to beating Hercules goalkeeper Juan Calatayud, and Hercules' second-half substitute Javier Portillo rattled the woodwork with a free kick of his own in the 70th in the game's best opportunities.

The draw left the promoted Hercules 12th in the standings, six points clear of the relegation zone and one point above 14th-place Racing.

Earlier this weekend, Barcelona stayed top of the standings with a 5-1 thrashing of Espanyol. Real Madrid is two points back after handing Sevilla its fifth straight loss. Villarreal beat Mallorca 3-1 and remained third, eight points behind Madrid, while Valencia moved into fourth place through its 2-1 win at Real Sociedad.

Also, Getafe won a club record fourth straight game, rallying to beat Almeria 3-2 and move into seventh, while at the other end of the table Zaragoza stayed in last place after a scoreless draw with Osasuna.
