FC Barcelona star midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who has been sidelined for a while due to a stint of injuries, opened up about his rehabilitation process on Sunday.

A lot of speculation has gone around the world during the Dutchman’s time off the field and he cleared the air about a couple of questions.

“Throughout my recovery, I have chosen to stay silent,” De Jong said.

“It is not true that the club told me I had to have an operation, and I didn’t want one,” the 27-year-old revealed.

“Because everyone at the club, the doctors and myself all agreed that surgery was not the best option,” he clarified.

The supposed figure of the Dutch midfielder’s paycheck has been a subject of discussion and the former Ajax man clarified that the widely touted 37 million figure he is said to earn wasn’t a true reflection of his wages.

“It is not true that I earn 37 million, that’s a very big figure and is a long way off what I really earn,” he said.

The midfielder who has been plagued by a bout of ankle injuries said the period on the sidelines had an effect on his mental health.

“Having three injuries to the same ankle caused me a bit of mental trauma,” he opened up.

However, the brilliant midfield artist said that he has regained his mental fortitude over time to go all out on the field.

“I am gradually regaining my confidence to kick the ball hard and go strong into tackles,” he reflected.

Despite Barcelona’s recent loss to Osasuna on Saturday, the team has got off to a spectacular start to the season under the tutelage of German head coach Hansi Flick, scoring a mountain of goals in their triumphs.

The Dutchman, who is back in training, hailed the atmosphere around the team and revealed his hopes of getting back to the thick of things and help his side out in their quest for trophies.

“From the outside, the team looks full of energy and quality,” he said.

“I am really keen to be part of that and offer my very best,” he concluded.
