Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer garnered immense praise from former English footballer Gary Lineker. Palmer came up with a brilliant assist in the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Lineker said that Palmer’s footwork was reminiscent of Lionel Messi, who has recorded more than 400 assists during his illustrious career.
Palmer deserves much credit for Chelsea’s winning run in the last three Premier League games.
The scoreline was goalless when Palmer ripped apart the opposition’s defence with a spectacular pass. He baffled the Nottingham Forest defence line with a pass that went through a narrow gap between two defenders.
Mykhailo Mudryk was running along the left flank and received the ball inside the penalty area. The Ukrainian made no mistake in finding the back of the net, giving Chelsea an early lead in the eighth minute of the away Premier League fixture.
Though the finishing was quite good, Lineker was impressed by the assist of Palmer.
Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Linekar said, “Cole Palmer, what about the pass for the Mudryk goal? The weight of it! It was Messi-esque that was."
Palmer moved to Chelsea from defending Premier League champions Manchester City last year. The English international has already demonstrated his quality for the London giants so far this season on several occasions. He is one of the top-performing players for Chelsea, having scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists for them in the ongoing season.

Palmer could have got a few more assists to his name in the first half.
It, however, did not happen due to a lack of finishing from the Chelsea players. Nottingham Forest centre-back Willy Boly brought the hosts back into the contest in the 16th minute and the scoreline remained 1-1 in the first half.
Nottingham Forest then took the lead in the 74th minute but Raheem Sterling did not take much time to find an equaliser for the visitors. Nicolas Jackson netted the winning goal for the Blues to secure a vital three points.
