Ferguson warns Carlos Tevez to expect hostile reception
Former Old Trafford cult hero is in for rough afternoon at Manchester United.

New Delhi: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Carlos Tevez of the shocking treatment he's in line to receive from the Old Trafford faithful on Sunday.

The forward jumped to the blue side of Manchester after Ferguson could not assure him of playing time. The move has proved an acrimonious one as both player and manager have traded unpleasantries in the press.

Fergie has gone on to minimize the Argentine's threat, labeling suspended ex-Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor as City's true danger man.

"It doesn’t bother me one bit (if Tevez plays),” the United manager said. "Their best player is not playing. Adebayor has been their star player, no question about that. He has scored in every game and that is a loss really.”

It's been revealed that City paid £47 million, not the widely reported figure of £25.5 million, to the owners of Tevez’s economic rights to bring him to the Eastlands.

Ferguson reacted with amazement at such a fee, and wasted no time in once again calling Tevez's usefulness into question.

"If we had wanted, seriously, to buy Carlos Tevez, we’d have been more serious,” Ferguson said. "We made an offer that was well in the compass of the player’s ability."

"When I read now that it is not £24 million, it is £47 million, there is no way we could even think about that. I thought £24 million was the figure. Obviously it wasn’t. City had obviously agreed it long before the end of the season. That goes without saying because they (Tevez’s representatives) never came back to us. It doesn’t smack of desperation. It just tells you how much money they (City) have.”

Tevez is listed as very doubtful to take part in the match because of a knee complaint, and may have to accept his verbal abuse from the bench. Due to several injuries and one very notable suspension, Craig Bellamy is City's only available first team striker.
