Liverpool: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League club, a reward for reviving the fortunes of one of England's biggest teams.

Liverpool finished second in the league standings, two points behind Manchester City, following an unexpected challenge for the title, and also secured a return to the Champions League.

Principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner said in a Liverpool statement that "we are very fortunate to have a hugely talented individual leading our football performance and in whom we place our trust to deliver the vision we share for Liverpool."

Rodgers took over as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2012. His contract was due to expire next year.
