The trailer of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan received a thunderous response from the film fraternity, right from Salman Khan to Varun Dhawan. Last week, Katrina Kaif took to her Instagram account to give a shout-out to the trailer of the film. Tagging director and close friend Ali Abbas Zafar, she wrote how proud she’s of him. She also heaped praise on Akshay and Tiger.
To this, Ali responded, “Thank you @katrinakaif missed you on BMCM please keep your dates free for the next one.” Needless to say, this exchange left fans excited as it hinted at an upcoming collaboration between the two. Earlier, Ali had directed Katrina in films like Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat. And now, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, the filmmaker reveals that Katrina had a complaint against him after watching the trailer.
He says, “Katrina is always on my mind when it comes to making any film. If I don’t cast her, she calls and tells me, ‘Why aren’t you taking me in your film?’ She said the same this time around too. Whenever I’ve worked with her, we’ve always shared a great bond as a director-actor duo.”
Lauding her and sharing his thoughts on how her skills haven’t been completely tapped yet, Ali remarks, “I feel there’s a lot of potential in her as an actor. Be it Bharat, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan or Tiger Zinda Hai, she has done some really good work with me. Every time I make a film, the first call I get is from Katrina where she complains about me not casting her. She often asks, ‘Why am I not being offered this film?’”
But was Katrina the original choice for one of the female characters in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan? Hinting at the same, the Sultan director tells us, “She couldn’t do our film because she was busy with something else. I just hope that she keeps her dates free for my next film.”
On a related note, some years back, reports started doing the rounds that Katrina and Ali were to reunite on an actioner titled Super Soldier, the shoot of which apparently got pushed due to the Covid-19 pandemic following which they got busy with their respective careers. Earlier in an interaction with us, the director confirmed that the film has been postponed but was not shelved.
“The superhero film was supposed to happen at one point of time but then, Katrina got busy with Tiger 3. And then the pandemic happened. That film is very much happening but I’m waiting for the right time to make it. Right now, I’m also engaged with a few other films. When we find the right time and space and both of us are free, it will definitely go on floors,” he had told us.
As for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the high-octane patriotic action thriller also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran with Sonakshi Sinha, Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F in pivotal roles. It’s set for a theatrical release on April 10.
