The level of competition increases with the increase in the number of candidates. The UPSC Prelims exam 2024 is set to be held on June 16. This is the first stage of the civil services examination. Candidates who manage to secure the qualifying marks in this stage, will move to the Mains round.

To become a civil service official, a candidate must pass all three stages of the examination. As there are just 13 days left for the examination, here are some tips from UPSC mentor Deepanshu Singh which will surely help you to crack the prelims examination:

In the UPSC Prelims examination 2024, there will be a total of 180 objective-based questions, out of which 80 questions will be from CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) and 100 questions from GS (General Studies). The total marks for the examination are 400. Two marks will be awarded for each correct answer, while 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Here are some preparation tips that you must follow:

  1. Practise mock tests regularly. Stop taking the mock tests 10 days before the exam as your performance in the tests can affect your real preparations.

As there are just 13 days to go for the examination, focus more on revision. This will help you to cover all the topics.

Keep a close eye on the recent newspapers and stay updated.

Use your notes as the primary source of revision; also, revise from the books you have already read. Avoid new sources as it can lead to confusion.

Give special attention to topics related to polity, geography, economy, and environment. For history, focus on topics like ancient art and culture, mediaeval and modern history, and the post-Gandhi period in modern history.

If you are weak in mathematics, practice CSAT rigorously everyday, as more practice will help you to perform better in aptitude.

Understand the pattern of comprehension from the previous year’s paper as it will help you to gain confidence.

Dedicate 5-6 hours everyday for revision. Try to dedicate 2 hours for mock tests, and 1-1.5 hours for current affairs preparation daily.

Pay special attention to your diet until the date of the examination as you can easily fall ill due to this scorching heat.

Ensure six hours of daily sleep to avoid health problems.

Break down the topics into smaller sub-parts and revise them, maintaining a daily routine.

Focus on subjects like Geography, Economics, Environment, and Polity as 65 percent of the questions are expected to come from these subjects.
