Admission to government and private medical colleges in India is done through the NEET exam score. You can register for the NEET UG 2024 exam on the official website exams.nta.ac.in/NEET till March 16, 2024. Earlier the last date to apply for the exam was March 9, 2024, but was later extended.
According to media reports, till March 8, 2024, more than 25 lakh students had applied for NEET UG 2024 making it the highest number of applications to date. Last year, 20.87 lakh students had applied for the medical entrance exam. This year, the number of applicants has crossed 25 lakh even before the last date. The number of NEET UG applicants is expected to increase by March 16, 2024.
Higher number of female applicants: So far more than 25 lakh students have applied for the examination, which is about 4.20 lakh more than last year. More than 55 per cent of the applicants are females. There are a total of 1,08,940 seats in medical colleges across India. The level of competition in the NEET UG 2024 is expected to be very high and the cut-off list is determined according to the number of applicants.
Highest application from UP: In 2022, around 18.72 lakh students had applied for the exam. So far this year, about 3.23 lakh students have applied from Uttar Pradesh followed by 2.69 lakh candidates from Maharashtra. Around 1.9 lakh students have applied from Rajasthan, 1.49 lakh from Karnataka, and 1.47 lakh from Tamil Nadu. A total of 65,809 candidates have applied from Delhi.
NEET UG will be held on May 5, 2024. According to the NTA exam calendar, the results will be released on June 14, 2024. By passing the exam, candidates will get admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, and other undergraduate medical courses in various medical colleges across the country. As of now, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of MBBS seats.

For admission in various courses of medical college, it is necessary to appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It was advised to apply for the NEET UG 2024 exam through an Aadhaar number. However many applicants had not linked their Aadhaar-mobile number and hence many were facing problems related to OTP. A large number of applicants had thereby asked NTA to extend the registration date.
