Missed JEE Advanced Cutoff? IITs Offer One-year Preparatory Courses For Students
SC/ST and Divyang students who could not clear the JEE Advanced cutoff still have a chance to get admission.

After the release of JEE Advanced results, registration for JoSAA counselling has also started. There are a large number of students whose names have not appeared on the merit list. SC/ST and Divyang students who could not clear the JEE Advanced cutoff still have a chance to get admission to the prestigious engineering colleges of the country including IIT and IIS. This will be possible through the preparatory course of IIT.

The preparatory course is of one-year duration. After admission to this counselling, students can get admission to the same institute and department after one year based on their merit. However, this change will be available only if reserved seats for students of the respective category remain vacant in the institutes.

JoSAA has released a zone-wise list of IITs offering preparatory courses. There are seven zones of IITs – South Zone, West Zone, North Central Zone, North East Zone, Central Zone, East Zone and North Zone.

List of IITs offering preparatory courses

South Zone – This zone hosts the preparatory course at IIT Hyderabad. IITs Madras, Hyderabad, Palakkad and Tirupati are included in this zone.

West Zone – This zone hosts the preparatory course at IIT Goa. IITs Bombay, Dharwad, Gandhinagar and Goa are included in this zone.

North Central Zone – This zone hosts the preparatory course at IIT Jammu. IIT Delhi, Jammu and Jodhpur are also included in this zone.

North East Zone – This zone hosts the preparatory courses at IIT Guwahati and Patna. These are the only two IITs in this zone.

Central Zone – IIT Indore hosts the preparatory course in this zone. IIT Kanpur, BHU and Indore are also included in this zone.

East Zone – This zone hosts the courses at IIT Dhanbad. It includes IIT Kharagpur, Bhubaneshwar, Dhanbad and Bhilai.

North Zone – In this zone, the preparatory course is held at IIT Mandi. It includes IITs Roorkee, Mandi and Ropar.

JoSAA Counselling Registration has begun. Registration is done through the official website. This will give admission to 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 Triple ITs and 40 GFTIs. Counselling will be conducted in five phases till July 26. Seat allocation for the first round will be done on June 20. Admission to preparatory courses will also be done through JoSAA Counselling.

The basis for admission to a preparatory course

A separate merit list will be prepared for admission to the preparatory course. This will happen only if the number of applicants on the merit list of SC, ST and Divyang categories is 1.4 times less than the number of reserved seats. To be included in this list of achievements, you must achieve 2.5% in each subject and 8.75% overall. You must also not have attended a preparatory course beforehand.
