Several schools in Telangana will remain closed today, June 26, as the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for a bandh to protest against the rising fees across private schools and poor infrastructure in government schools. This is the second time this month that the student body has called for a bandh.

There has been no official announcement asking schools to remain closed today, but several schools across Hyderabad have declared a holiday as a precautionary measure, and some schools have shifted to online classes for students between classes 5 and 10, the report added.

The student body has demanded that the state government provide basic amenities in government schools and put a curb on high fees across private schools. ABVP said that even though 15 days have passed since the start of school following summer vacations this year, the books have not been distributed yet, which shows the negligence of the government towards the students. It also demanded that a fee control law be implemented in the state and that proper infrastructure be provided in schools.
