Many students dream of studying at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), but only a few manage to fulfil this dream by passing the JEE exam after Class 12 or the GATE exam after graduation. Without passing one of these two exams, gaining admission to an IIT has traditionally been impossible. However, there is now a new pathway to studying at IIT that does not require these entrance exams.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) has introduced a new certificate programme in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Design. This six-month certificate programme is tailored for engineers from mechanical, electrical, automotive, and related fields. The programme is set to commence on September 29.

Eligibility for IIT Delhi’s New Certificate Programme

Candidates eligible to apply for IIT Delhi’s new certificate programme in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Design must have an Engineering Graduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or allied fields. Also, diploma holders (10+2+3) from a recognised university are eligible.

The course fee for the HEV Design certificate programme at IIT Delhi is Rs 1,10,000 plus GST.

To receive a certificate of completion from the Continuing Education Programme (CEP) at IIT Delhi, candidates must achieve a minimum grade of 50% and maintain at least 50% attendance throughout the programme.

Course Content

To meet the growing demand in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market and address the skills gap in the EV industry, IIT Delhi’s Certificate Programme will cover a range of essential topics. These include thermodynamics, internal combustion (IC) engines, electric machines and drives, power electronics, automotive hybridisation, and battery design and modelling.

Programme Benefits

Participants will gain from live sessions delivered by esteemed IIT Delhi faculty, and the curriculum will be aligned with the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme. It includes a Capstone project, offering practical experience and valuable networking opportunities within the automotive industry.

The programme features an optional one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi’s Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART), providing participants with exposure to state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research in the field.
