The organisation consists of a Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners. As per the new provision, a search committee is held which shortlists the eligible candidates for the post of Election Commissioner. It is headed by the minister of Law and also includes two members of the Union Secretary.

According to more information, the search committee shortlists five names and then the list is sent to the selection committee. The selection committee consists of the Prime Minister, a Union Minister and the Leader of the Opposition; they decide who is to become the Chief Election Commissioner.

The salary of the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioner is similar to that of a Supreme Court Judge. They are given the post for a tenure of 6 years and they have to be 65 years in age. Most of the time, the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioner are senior IAS officers.

The Election Commission has several job posts, which includes Stenographer, Data Entry Operator, MATS, Car Driver, Librarian, Junior Secretariat Assistant, Research Assistant, Canteen Staff and more. The recruitments for these posts are done directly through Staff Selection Commission and or deputation.

As per the reports, the staff car driver is given a salary of Rs 20,000 per month. The salary of a data entry operator ranges between Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100. The multitasking staff gets a salary of Rs 20,000 to Rs 22,000 per month.
