'When he Feels The Right Time...': Jasprit Bumrah 'Very Happy' Playing Under Phenomenal Rohit Sharma

Jasprit Bumrah has paid rich tributes to his India captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the final of 2024 T20 World Cup where they meet South Africa on Saturday. Bumrah has played 51 matches across formats under the captaincy of Rohit and taken 112 wickets in them.

Rohit, who opens for India, has scored 248 runs from 7 matches in the ongoing world cup and is currently third in the list of top run-getters of the competition.

“Rohit Sharma has been absolutely phenomenal,” Bumrah said in a video shared by ICC. “Even in the previous World Cup you know, he has been proactive, he gives a lot of freedom to his players, he lets the players express themselves.”

“When he feels the right time, he shares his own experience during the match. So ya, it feels really great and I feel very happy playing under him and the confidence of the group is also very high,” Bumrah added.

Saturday presents Rohit a third opportunity in just over a year to win a world cup as India captain. He came close to achieving the feat last year, twice, when he led India into the World Test Championship final and then ODI World Cup final too.

However, India lost both the title matches to Australia which has extended their wait for a first ever ICC title since 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy in England.

Both India and South Africa have been unbeaten in the ongoing competition. While for India, it’s their third ever appearance in a T20 World Cup final, for South Africa this is their maiden appearance in a world cup title clash.

The contest will be held at the Kensington Oval in Barbados and there’s forecast of rain during the match. However, keeping the fickle weather into account, the organisers have provided for extra time to ensure a result is achieved on Saturday itself but in case it’s not possible, then there’s a reserve day on June 30.
